D-Star Site

No picture provided yet

This is the beginning of the WMPORN D-Star Repeater.

The picture to the left shows the way that the repeater was first set up. It was good for testing, but the cans just were not enough for the hostile locationn where the repeater was at, and any attempts to improve the RX gain resulted in worse performance.

After many ideas and many tests we found the combination that worked and began operating the repeater at a little bit higher profile. There is still alot of work to be done over the summer months to bring the repeater up to it's full potential. You don't have to have a technical background to help, there are alot of very non-technical jobs that go with maintaining a repeater site, like mowing the grass, taking out the trash, sweeping the floor etc.

Donations are also being accepted. The costs of a project of this size is astronomical. If you think that getting in to D-Star is kind of expensive as a user, try getting into it as a repeater owner. We have several things that still need to be purchased in order to put this thing fully on the air. The 1296 Antenna and duplexer need to be purchased. We have 1 run of 1 7/8 hardline up the tower already and now need to put the antenna up. TX-RX makes a duplexer/triplexer just for D-Star that will take connections from both the 1296 Voice module as well as the 1296 Data module and allow us to use one antenna. The cost for that part alone is about $1300 and that is cheaper than another run of hardline and a second antenna.

Still Counting!
